August 2009 GLOBALORIA Academy

The enriching and highly informative August GLOBALORIA Educator's Academy was phenomenal. KUDOS to the entire WWW Team . . . Idit, Shannon, DAvid, Maitreyi, Rachel and Jeff for such a well developed training session. As both an educator and a student, there were times over the last two days I would look around in awe at the number of intelligent, dedicated, and caring teachers we have in West Virginia! I am both humbled and honored to be in the presence of such wonderful individuals. One of our Acadmey highlights was the inspiring speech provided by former West Virginia Governor, Gaston Caperton. We are very fortunate to have such a great advocate for our state! A special THANKS to Mr. Caperton for taking time out of his busy schedule to both visit and inspire 'his' West Virginia GLOBALORIA educators. Your continued support and diligence on behalf of the citizens of West Virginia is much appreciated!

Day's Reflection - 6/25/09

Oh My Goodness! What an incredible day! We started out blogging and I'm going to close my day by blogging. Our day began with Idit providing a glowing overview of the GLOBALORIA platform (see my UPDATED wiki, why don't ya!), then jumped right in to FLASH programming. Maitreyi opened up our FLASH session, then turned over the reigns to the PHENOMENAL Patrick! Talk about a fella with the patience of Job...Patrick has patience, kindness, and a wealth of advice for novice FLASH users! From about 10am until lunchtime, we were fully immersed in FLASH. What was on the agenda AFTER lunchtime? Why, more FLASH of course!! From 1:30 until we stopped for supper at 5:30 we continued to improve our burgeoning FLASH skills. BUT, before we could eat...we were required to WIKI, WIKI, WIKI our progress by uploading our daily FLASH files! Honestly, the GLOBALORIA team has done an outstanding job putting together such a learning rich environment for our 'Educators as Learners' summer session! We finished up our evening with fabulous food, fellowship, a collaborative presentation, and my personal favorite activity for the day....MUSIC performed by three of our GLOBALORIA educators! How totally cool was that?! Hats off to Jim A., Kevin W., and Bob T. for blessing us with their special musical talents! Well, that's about it for today! Now I've gotta go get my little man up-to-snuff on FLASH so that he can come and share in our learning tomorrow! Happy gaming to all and to all a good night!! Lori :-)

GOODNESS!! There is so much going on here. This training is very informative and beneficial. Yet it's easy OVERLOAD..!! NOW, about this HOMEWORK. As required, I selected TWO blogs. I selected two blogs because they were of historical content. These historical blogs can be utilized during the upcoming school year since I will be working collaboratively with our Pressley history teacher, Neale :).
